The Aus Tourist Visa is by no means easy to obtain, requiring a lot of proof and paperwork, but it may be your most relevant choice in terms of getting your Thai girlfriend into Australia. This Visa option allows your girlfriend a conditional 3 to 12 month stay in Australia for a holiday.

The Aus Tourist Visa comes in both single and multiple entry – both of which are valid also for 3 to 12 months depending on individual cases and requirements. These standards and set by by the Embassy. It is highly likely that on her first application, your Thai girlfriend will be given a 3-month single entry option and from there, you and your girlfriend could make the relationship and the Visa option more permanent with a 12-month extension or another Visa option.

Remember that this Visa option only allows your Thai girlfriend to take a vacation in Australia as a tourist and not as a worker or employee of any sort.

An official application for the Aus Tourist Visa will cost you around $75. This amount is non-refundable even if the Visa application is refused. Therefore, it is important to complete all possible and necessary application forms as best and as honestly as you can.

You will likely need around 4000 Baht to process all papers. There are two fees applied to the application once it has been accepted. The fee that the embassy charges is 3250 Baht (Jan 2011). This is paid in the form of a cheque or money order. You can get this at the VFS office for a small fee (35 Baht.) They do not take credit cards for any of the fees. This fee is not fixed so it would be useful to bring extra cash just in case.

After processing your papers, you will be informed by the VFS office at Bangkok that it will take you around three to 5 working days to complete the processing. Actually, it will take 5 days. Papers completed on a Monday are very likely to be claimed on Friday in the afternoon.
